Offshore drilling contractor Transocean has announced the deployment of HaloGuard safety system on the drillship Deepwater Conqueror.

The system combines a wearable alarm and a real-time location transmitter with a machine vision system to track the position of personnel involved in offshore drilling programmes.

After it is integrated with drill floor equipment and machine stoppage controls, the system will alert the crew member through the wearable device when they come in a certain proximity of moving equipment.

The system will stop equipment from further moving until the member shifts to a distant safe position.

The induction of the HaloGuard system is expected to improve individual protection on the drill floor mitigating risks during offshore operations.

The company developed HaloGuard methodology and technology in collaboration with Houston Mechatronics and Salunda.

The technology is expected to be deployed on six additional rigs by the end of this year.

Transocean operates a fleet of 27 ultra-deepwater floaters and 11 harsh environment floaters. Last year, the company secured $352.9m in new rig contracts and extensions.
