Global energy technology company SLB has secured a contract from Petrobras to deliver integrated services across all of its offshore fields in Brazil.
This development will see SLB overseeing the construction of more than 100 deep-water wells using advanced technologies on up to nine ultra-deep-water rigs, marking a significant collaboration between the two companies.
The services will be primarily conducted in the Campos, Santos and Espírito Santo Basins, along with other Petrobras-operated fields, including exploratory wells.
SLB Offshore Atlantic basin president Wallace Pescarini said: “SLB has maintained a strong relationship with Petrobras as a technology partner for many decades. This contract builds on our existing work with Petrobras across its offshore basins and introduces new technologies that enhance both operational and environmental efficiency.
“Moreover, it aligns with our robust local content journey in Brazil and with our well distributed operational footprint across the country.”
Operations in the Equatorial Margin are also anticipated, pending exploration licence approval within the three-year contract period starting from April 2025.

By GlobalDataSLB will deploy transition technologies under the contract, including the Ora intelligent wireline formation testing platform and the SpectraSphere fluid mapping-while-drilling service.
The Ora platform offers real-time reservoir characterisation, reducing risks and emissions while enhancing productivity.
SpectraSphere provides precise pressure measurements and high-quality samples, aiding in better steering decisions.
Petrobras executive manager of wells Wllisses Menezes Afonso said: “This investment of approximately $800m (4.77bn reais) will allow us to intensify our activities in several basins, revitalising already productive fields and exploring new areas, with new technologies, with a focus on making our operations even safer and more efficient.”
SLB also recently introduced its AI-driven Neuro autonomous geosteering technology to boost drilling efficiency.
This innovation uses cloud and edge AI to navigate complex subsurface conditions dynamically, allowing for more efficient and productive wells with a reduced carbon footprint.
Traditionally, geologists manually interpret subsurface data, a process prone to human error. The Neuro autonomous geosteering technology automates these tasks, enabling real-time, accurate adjustments without human intervention.
This advancement represents a significant step forward in drilling operations, enhancing efficiency and reducing the environmental impact.
