CCS joint venture (JV) has selected Siemens Energy to supply ’emissions-reducing’ power generation equipment and boil-off gas compressors for the Mozambique liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in the Cabo Delgaro Province, Northern Mozambique.

CCS JV is a joint venture between Saipem and McDermott International.

The Mozambique LNG Project is being developed following the discovery of a large natural gas quantity off the coast of northern Mozambique in 2010.

It is operated by Total and comprises a global team of energy developers. The project includes the development of offshore gas fields in Mozambique’s Area 1 and a liquefaction plant capable of producing over 12Mtpa.

Other partners in the project include Mitsui, Oil India, ONGC Videsh, Bharat Petroleum and PTT Exploration, as well as Mozambique’s national oil and gas company ENH.

Under the latest contract, Siemens Energy will supply six SGT-800 industrial gas turbines, which will be used for onsite power generation.

Siemens noted that the gas turbines are expected to be delivered between the second half of next year and the first half of 2022.

Meanwhile, the compressors delivery is set for next year.

In July, Total secured $14.9bn in financing from several banks for its liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in northern Mozambique.

The Mozambique LNG project is currently on track to be commissioned by 2024.
