SBM Offshore has secured a contract to provide front end engineering and design (FEED) for a floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO).
The FPSO is for the Payara development project in the Stabroek block, Guyana.
The contract has been awarded by ExxonMobil subsidiary Esso Exploration and Production Guyana Limited (EEPGL), operator of the Stabroek block. Other partners in the block include Hess Guyana Exploration and CNOOC Petroleum Guyana.
Before receiving the necessary government approvals and project sanction, the contract will start limited release of funds to initiate FEED activities and to secure a Fast4Ward hull, according to SBM Offshore.
The Fast4Ward hull is designed to be used for projects across the deep water market.
After receiving necessary approvals, project sanction and permission to proceed with the next phase, SBM Offshore will construct, install and operate the FPSO. The FPSO is expected to last for a period of two years. After the completion of the FPSO, ownership and operation will be transferred to EEPGL.

By GlobalDataPlanned to be named Prosperity, the design of the FPSO is a copy of the Liza Unity FPSO design. Based on SBM Offshore’s Fast4Ward programme, the FPSO vessel design incorporates the company’s newly built multi- purpose hull equipped with several standardised topsides modules.
It will be designed to produce 220,000bpd, associated gas treatment capacity of 400mcf/d and water injection capacity of 250,000bpd. The vessel will be spread in water depth of about 1,900m, with capability to store around 2Mmbbls of crude oil.
SBM Offshore CEO Bruno Chabas said: “We are pleased to report that ExxonMobil has selected SBM Offshore to award contracts for a third FPSO in Guyana, starting with the front-end engineering, to continue the world-class deep water development in Guyana.
“The successful team work with our client ExxonMobil on the Liza Destiny and Liza Unity FPSOs provided a solid foundation for this award. This project will be adding further traction to SBM Offshore’s Fast4Ward programme as its design is incorporating our multi-purpose hull and a number of standardised modules.”
