Santos has announced the completion of the Angore project in the Hela Province of Papua New Guinea.
The project is set to deliver up to 350mscf/d of gas.
This development is expected to support stable, long-term production for the LNG project, unlocking a one trillion cubic feet natural gas resource.
The Angore project has shown strong performance since its initiation, with two wells successfully commissioned and connected.
Santos managing director and CEO Kevin Gallagher said: “The start-up of Angore is one of a number of PNG [Papua New Guinea] highlights in 2024 for Santos and our joint venture partners – ExxonMobil, Kumul Petroleum Holdings, Mineral Resources Development Company and JX Nippon.
“The supply of associated gas from Kutubu through optimisation of the central processing facility is also exceeding expectations with 16 billion cubic feet (bcf) of gas accelerated so far this year.”

By GlobalDataAlongside Angore, associated gas from Agogo and Moran could contribute an additional 125mscf/d, Gallagher added. The final investment decision on the projects is due by 2026.
Drilling is also under way at the Hides Footwall exploration well, which could potentially add another 160mscf/d.
In addition, front-end engineering for Papua LNG is progressing, leveraging a substantial gas resource base in PNG’s Eastern Highlands Province.
This region is strategically located near LNG production and export infrastructure, enhancing operational efficiencies.
Since production commenced in April 2014, the PNG LNG project has delivered more than 83 million tonnes (mt) of LNG to Asian customers, including long-term offtakers CPC, JERA, Osaka Gas and Sinopec.
With an investment exceeding $19bn (K75.84bn), the project marked its tenth year of production in 2024, consistently surpassing its nameplate capacity of 6.9mt per annum by 30%.
Over the years, PNG LNG has generated more than $7bn for PNG through taxes, royalties, distributions and development levy payments.
PNG LNG is recognised for its relatively low greenhouse gas emissions intensity, ranking among the top quartile of LNG producers globally.
