Italian offshore engineering and construction company Saipem has secured a contract to provide supervision and subsea intervention services for the GreenStream pipeline.
The pipeline connects the Mellitah terminal in Libya to Gela in Italy.
This new agreement with GreenStream, a midstream company in the Mediterranean Sea, extends the two operators’ relationship, which has been ongoing since 2008.
This encompassed asset integrity, inspection, maintenance and emergency services, and has broadened in scope to meet a wider range of customer needs.
The contract’s activities will be managed by Sonsub, Saipem’s centre of excellence for robotics, underwater technologies and services.
It will be coordinated with the Saipem Engineering Hub in Fano, Italy.

By GlobalDataThe work includes integrated management of survey data, provision of critical spares, specialised engineering services related to asset integrity and readiness for repair interventions across various damage scenarios.
Specifically, repair interventions will utilise SiRCoS technology, a Sonsub-industrialised remotely operated repair system qualified for water depths up to 2,200m.
Saipem said: “With this award Saipem will contribute to managing the integrity of a fundamental underwater infrastructure for the Italian energy supply with an integrated approach, thus confirming the company’s leadership in the underwater domain with promptly available and efficient solutions.”
This contract also strengthens the long-standing cooperation between Saipem and GreenStream dating back to 2002, when Saipem was contracted for the pipeline’s installation.
Recently, Saipem secured two offshore contracts worth approximately $500m (€459.42m) in Saudi Arabia, including a 42in diameter, 50km crude trunk line for the Abu Safa field and production maintenance programmes for the Berri and Manifa Fields, under its long-term agreement with Saudi Aramco.
