Rowan Norway has secured a contract from Equinor to drill two wells at the Gudrun oil and gas condensate field in the central part of the North Sea.
Under the terms of the $23m deal, Rowan will use the Rowan Stavanger jack-up rig to carry out the drilling. The agreement includes a five-month term and five options for drilling of single wells. The value is only for the fixed part of the contract.
The contract work is anticipated to commence in the third quarter of next year.
Equinor and Rowan also signed a master framework agreement, which facilitates future contracts, according to the latter.
Equinor will have exclusive rights to use the rig up to 2025 if the rig is kept in continuous operation.
Equinor drilling and well cluster senior vice-president Geir Tungesvik said: “We are pleased to establish an agreement with a rig supplier that is new to us as an operator on the Norwegian continental shelf.
“Rowan is a large worldwide supplier of jack-up rigs. We want to have a long-term cooperation with Rowan and have therefore signed a framework agreement with them.”
In addition to drilling services, Rowan will deliver casing running, slop treatment and cuttings handling services.
Rowan operates a fleet of 25 mobile offshore drilling units, including 21 self-elevating jack-up rigs and four ultra-deepwater drillships.
The Gudrun field is located in licence area PL025 and estimated to contain around 184 million barrels of oil equivalent.
