Thailand’s PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP) has reported its largest-ever oil discovery in the Sarawak SK 410B Project located approximately 90km offshore Sarawak, Malaysia.
The discovery follows drilling of the Lang Lebah-2 appraisal well by PTTEP’s wholly owned subsidiary PTTEP HK Offshore (PTTEP HKO).
Following drilling to a total depth of 4,320m, the well encountered more than 600m of net gas pay. This indicated a larger reservoir than the initial estimate, the firm said.
The well had a flow rate of 50 million cubic feet of gas per day (MMSCFD) following testing.
PTTEP said that the well result will accelerate the project’s development plan.

PTTEP HKO operates the Sarawak SK 410B Project with a 42.5% stake. KUFPEC Malaysia and Petronas Carigali are partners in the project with 42.5% and 15% interest respectively.
The latest discovery follows a large gas field discovery by PTTEP HKO in 2019 with its first well on the SK410B block. The well encountered 252m of net gas pay, suggesting a multi-trillion cubic feet (tcf) gas discovery.
Targeting non-associated gas in the primary target of the Middle Miocene cycle IV/V carbonate reservoir, the well was drilled to a depth of 3,810m with a completion-constrained rate of 41.3mmscfd and 246 barrel of condensate per day.
