Petrobras has announced that hydrocarbons have been identified in the pre-salt layer of the Campos Basin in the Brava North block, offshore Brazil.
The presence of hydrocarbons was identified in exploratory well 1-BRSA-1394-RJS, 105km off Rio de Janeiro’s coast at a water depth of 575m.
With the well drilling now completed, final profiling is under way, with samples undergoing laboratory analysis for further characterisation.
Through electrical profiles, gas traces and fluid sampling, Petrobas confirmed the hydrocarbon-bearing interval.
The data will allow for the evaluation of the potential and guide future exploration activities in the area.
Petrobras is the operator of the Brava North block with a 100% stake.
This block was acquired in December 2022 during the first cycle of the Permanent Production Sharing Offer, a bidding process organised by the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels under the production sharing regime.
Pré-Sal Petróleo SA is the manager of the block, which is considered a key asset for exploring the pre-salt potential, especially in the Campos Basin.
This announcement comes after Petrobras earlier this month completed a drill stem test at the Sirius-2 well, located 31km off Colombia’s coast in the GUA-OFF-0 offshore block at a depth of 804m.
After evaluation of a 100m reservoir interval, the test confirmed “good productivity”.
Samples were collected for laboratory analysis, with initial results indicating a “significant” gas presence in the region.
This month, Petrobras engaged Baker Hughes in a multi-year contract for the delivery of fully integrated completions systems for its Brazilian offshore fields.
The contract, awarded following an open tender process, will leverage Baker Hughes’ completions technology to optimise production across several deep-water fields.
Under the agreement, Baker Hughes will provide a variety of technologies customised for Petrobras’ offshore projects.
