Natural gas distribution company OPAL Fuels has secured an RNG supply agreement to construct five new fuelling stations in the US over a six-year period.

The deal extends a decade-long collaboration with a logistics solutions provider to bolster the existing network of fuelling stations nationwide.

The agreement forecasts an annual supply volume of around 12 million GGE once the stations are fully operational.

Commissioning of two of the new stations is scheduled for this month, with the remaining three expected to come online within the next six to 12 months.

This expansion is part of OPAL Fuels’ broader strategy to increase the availability of RNG, a cleaner alternative to traditional fossil fuels.

OPAL Fuels co-CEO Adam Comora said: “This significant agreement with a leading freight logistics provider underscores both their and OPAL’s commitment to de-carbonise heavy duty trucking through RNG.

“With its proven financial and sustainability benefits, the demand for RNG as a diesel alternative is only set to grow in the coming years. We are thrilled to leverage our vertically integrated platform to provide a ‘Cleaner, Cheaper, Now’ fuel solution helping fleets lower both their operating costs and their carbon footprint.”

In a recent development, OPAL Fuels began constructing a new RNG production facility at the Kirby Canyon Landfill in Santa Clara County, California, in November 2024. The facility is designed to produce approximately 5.1 million GGE of RNG annually, with an initial capacity of around 660,000 British thermal units.

Further strengthening its portfolio, OPAL Fuels started commercial operations at its RNG facility at the Polk County municipal landfill in Jones Corner, Florida, in October 2024.

The joint venture between GFL Environmental and OPAL Fuels, Paragon RNG, also marked the commencement of commercial operations at their new RNG facility at the Sampson County Landfill in Roseboro, North Carolina, last October.
