OMV Norge has drilled appraisal well 6506/11-11 S about 20km west of the Åsgard field in the Norwegian Sea and confirmed the 6506/11-10 (Iris) gas/condensate discovery.
The well was drilled using Odfjell’s Drilling’s semisubmersible Deepsea Bergen facility to respective vertical and measured depths of 4433m and 4443m under the sea surface. It was terminated in the Ror formation in the Lower to Middle Jurassic.
Well 6506/11-11 S was drilled to a depth of 382m of water on production license 644. It was designed partly to delineate the gas/condensate discovery in the Garn formation towards the southwest.
According to the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD), the well encountered a 70m gas column in the Garn formation, including 50m of sandstone with moderate to good reservoir quality.
The drilling also encountered multiple sandstone layers with variable reservoir quality totalling about 55m in the Ile formation, which is aquiferous.
Preliminary analysis of the Garn discovery indicates 4-12MMcmoe recoverable oil equivalents. The licensees will consider a subsea development tie-in to existing installations in the area.

By GlobalDataNPD said in a statement: “Extensive data acquisition and sampling have been conducted in the well. Two successful formation tests were carried out in the Garn formation.
“The maximum production rate was 1.6 million Sm3 gas and 885 Sm3 condensate per flow day through a 52/64-inch nozzle opening.”
Deepsea Bergen will now drill wildcat well 25/8-19 S in production licence 820 S in the North Sea, operated by MOL Norge.
