Norwegian oil and gas company Equinor and its partners have awarded a subsea umbilicals, risers and flowlines (SURF) contract to Ocean Installer.

The SURF EPCI contract, worth more than Nkr1bn ($94.27m), is for the Troll phase 3 – stage 2 Project.

Last month, Equinor, along with its partners, decided to invest Nkr12bn in the North Sea Troll gas field to increase production.

As per the plan, the second stage of the Troll phase 3 project includes eight new wells positioned on two new templates, with subsea controls extended from existing templates.

Along with doing maintenance work on Troll A, the project will lay a new 36in gas flowline as a tie-back to the Troll A platform.

The scope of Ocean Installer’s EPCI contract includes protective covers, a subsea PLR, five 20in spools, 6km of 4.5in MEG line and four sizeable pipeline termination structures for the 36in gas flowline.

The subsea production system, OneSubsea umbilical installation, trenching and pre-commissioning are also included in the job.

Ocean Installer’s Stavanger and Oslo offices have already begun engineering work. The majority of the fabrication will be carried out by Norwegian subcontractors.

Additionally, Ocean Installer has received a different contract to replace a 10in flexible flowline spanning 4km at the Troll B field in 2025.

Ocean Installer CEO Kevin Murphy said: “The Troll phase 3 – stage 2 project is a perfect match with our capabilities, and we are excited to deliver this project in close collaboration with Equinor and our locally based fabrication partners.

“This award shows that our clients continue to rely on us for large, complex and production critical projects. Moreover, the Troll B Flowline Replacement award demonstrates the range of projects we can help our clients with – from big EPCIs to smaller T&I [transportation and installation] projects.”
