Thunder Horse

BP Exploration & Production has selected Technip for the Thunder Horse South drilling quarters unit expansion project in the Gulf of Mexico.

Under the terms of the contract, Technip will be responsible for the design, engineering, fabrication, installation and pre-commissioning of the new production pipeline systems on the south side of the oil field.

The existing field development, at a water depth of around 1,900m, is located in Mississippi Canyon, Blocks 778 and 822, in the ultra-deepwater Gulf of Mexico environment.

As part of the project works, Technip will provide project management and engineering services.

"This award follows Technip’s execution of several phases of the Thunder Horse development since 2003, culminating with the installation of the Gulf of Mexico’s first plastically lined water injection pipelines in December 2014."

The project will also see the coating, fabrication, installation and permanent anchoring of two 3.25km rigid production flowlines with four pipeline end terminations.

The overall project management will be carried out by Technip’s operating centre located in Houston, Texas, and the infield flowlines will be welded at its spoolbase in Mobile, Alabama, US.
