The Nigerian National Petroleum (NNPC) has signed an agreement with Halliburton to identify the specific location of crude oil deposits in the country’s inland sedimentary basins.

Through the partnership, NNPC intends to accelerate the oil exploration programme through use of the Halliburton Neftex solution, which will enable the exactitude of oil during drilling campaign.

Expected to provide a geophysical mapping structure of Nigeria, the solution complements the NNPC research centre’s ongoing efforts to develop 'Turonian Cenomanian Cretaceous source rock' for all the basins in the country.

The objective of the collaboration is to identify all the prolific basins in the country by locating areas with large crude deposits.

NNPC R&D division group general manager Dr Bola Afolabi said: ‘’If you take a football field for instance, there are technologies that will direct you to drill for oil within the whole field but we are using a software solution that will tell you with exactitude to drill for instance in goal post one and when you do that you find large oil.

“That is what we are seeking to achieve with Neftex solution.”
