Maersk Drilling has received its fourth XLE jack-up rig, developed by South Korea's Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME).
Named Maersk Invincible, the rig will be moved to the North Sea. It is the final rig to enter the fleet of four ultra-harsh environment jack-up rigs of Maersk Drilling.
Under a five-year firm contract with Aker BP, Maersk Invincible will commence plug and abandonment work on the Valhall field from the second quarter of this year.
The first three jack-up rigs were delivered from the Keppel FELS shipyard.
Maersk Drilling’s jack-up rigs are 206.8m-long, making them one of the largest of their kind in the world. They are designed to perform year-round operations in the North Sea at maximum water depths of 150m.
The uptime and drilling efficiency of these XL Enhanced jack-ups are maximised through dual pipe handling. It decreases the non-productive time as it remains set for subsequent transfer for use in the well bore.

By GlobalDataThe drill floor has a multi machine control, a completely remote-operated pipe handling system.
This system enables all standard operations such as stand building and tripping that can be conducted without the need for personnel on the drill floor. As a result, it improves efficiency maintaining thorough consistency across crews.
Currently, Maersk Drilling’s fleet consists of 24 drilling rigs that include drillships, deepwater semi-submersibles and high-end jack-up rigs.
