ION Geophysical has announce plans to carry out a new 3D multi-client broadband reimaging programme known as ‘Picanha’ off the shore of Brazil.
The programme will be supported by industry funding and aims to provide a regional 3D framework, delivering detailed insights into the complex Campos and Santos basins' petroleum systems prior to the upcoming license rounds.
ION's E&P Technology and Services group executive vice-president and CEO Ken Williamson said: “Repeated oil and gas discoveries in the world-class petroleum systems offshore Brazil continues to draw operators to the region.
“Picanha leverages ION's extensive local geological and geophysical experience in combination with our new Accelerated Imaging, making it possible to rapidly deliver high-quality data for E&P companies to evaluate the context of these complex basins and to identify prospect opportunities for upcoming ANP license rounds.”
ION will utilise its latest broadband processing and imaging technology to reprocess and reimage 100,000km2 of data, which will be procured from approximately 50 interconnecting public-domain 3D surveys.
The technology will enable the company to create a regionally calibrated, high-quality and consistently imaged 3D data set, enabling exploration teams to assess the risk and rank prospects according to current and future exploration requirements.
