Canada-based Husky Energy has started oil production from the South White Rose project in the Jeanne d’Arc Basin offshore Newfoundland and Labrador.

Husky Energy CEO Asim Ghosh said: "South White Rose is Husky’s second major subsea satellite tieback following the successful North Amethyst subsea project.

"Both of these projects extend the life of the main White Rose field and use the SeaRose FPSO vessel."

The company brought the first well online with plans to start the second one on in in the next couple of months.

Once the second well commences, the South White Rose extension is expected to increase net peak production to around 15,000 barrels per day (bbls/d).

"Both of these projects extend the life of the main White Rose field and use the SeaRose FPSO vessel."

According to the company, the Hibernia-level formation well down the North Amethyst field is expected to begin production in the fourth quarter and will have net peak production of 5,000bbls/d.
