Production licence 616 was awarded by the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate in 2012.

The Norwegian agency granted the drilling permit to the company on the condition that it secures all other permits and consents required by other authorities prior to beginning the drilling activity.

Discovered in 1975, the Valhall oil field is located in 70m of water and production from it began in 1982.

The production is further expected to continue until 2050.
