Seismic operations

Marine geophysical services provider Dolphin Geophysical is set to start a large 3D SHarp Broadband Multi-Client (MC) survey, covering around 15,000km² as part of its continued seismic operations in Australia on the North West Shelf.

The company has mobilised its 3D vessel the Sanco Swift to carry out survey on the North Carnarvon Basin in partnership with TGS supported by major oil companies.

According to Dolphin, the 3D survey covers both the awarded licence and open acreage.

In an effort to produce quality on-board post-stack time migrated fast-track volume, Dolphin is set to conduct full broadband seismic processing of the survey data.

Before processing begins, the company will take input from supporting clients.

Prior to performing the survey, Dolphin and TGS will collaborate to complete initial phase of about 2,500km² of the 3D survey with the same vessel.

The survey is slated for completion around the 25 June.

Both MC surveys will use ten streamers with 150m separations and 8,100m offsets.

Dolphin geophysical multi-client and new ventures vice-president Ian T Edwards said: "Although the company has successfully operated vessels in Australia for the past two years, this is our first multi-client project in the country designed and promoted by Dolphin.

"We are very pleased to have attracted support from two of the world’s largest operators, Shell and Statoil."

TGS Eastern Hemisphere senior vice-president Stein Ove Isaksen said: "This survey extends TGS’s current 3D data coverage in an important hydrocarbon-rich region and positions TGS well in relation to future expected exploration activity from our clients."
