BashNIPIneft, a research and design institute for Russian oil and gas company Bashneft, has implemented Everything3D (AVEVA E3D) and Laser Modeller software provided by British information technology company AVEVA.

The AVEVA software facilitates a wide range of upgrade and improvement projects on Russian plants.

BashNIPIneft chief engineer Erik Yumashev said: “BashNIPIneft had no previous experience with laser software for brownfield project upgrades. AVEVA E3D was easy to use and the integration with brownfield laser data is amazing.

“The accuracy of our deliverables on this project easily meets our rigorous standards. Using AVEVA software for the capture of brownfield laser data and 3D design is one of the principal directions for development that the Institute has established for itself.”

“This strategic purchase opens new horizons for BashNIPIneft and demonstrates the powerful business benefits of laser scanning across the project lifecycle.”

The institute needed a technology that could be used to capture the as-built condition of the existing plant completely, along with delivering full laser data integration with the 3D modelling environment.

The data enables designers to immediately assess the entire work required on the facility, thereby saving time by minimising rework in the design office.

This also helps increase the quality of the deliverables by allowing more transparent and improved processes for engineering and design work.

AVEVA senior vice president and EPC sales global head Evgeny Fedotov said: “This strategic purchase opens new horizons for BashNIPIneft and demonstrates the powerful business benefits of laser scanning across the project lifecycle.

“BashNIPIneft collected laser scanning data on-site, which was uploaded to AVEVA Laser Modeller to produce on-demand engineering deliverables. The ready-to-use 3D model was then opened directly in AVEVA E3D for ongoing design activities.

“Engineers can position new designs and run clash checks against the existing plant. Laser scan data dramatically reduces discrepancies and design can be done within the real 3D space of the construction site.”
