Petrobras has commenced production from the Maria Quiteria floating, production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel in the pre-salt layer of the Jubarte field within the Campos Basin, offshore Brazil.

The FPSO has a production capacity of up to 100,000boepd and can process up to five million cubic metres (mcm) of gas daily.

Operated by Petrobras, the vessel measures 156m in height, 333m in length and is installed in a water depth of 1,385m.

In addition, it will have a generation capacity of 100MW of energy, enough to supply a city of 230,000 inhabitants.

The platform boasts technologies aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 24%.

It will be connected to eight production and eight injection wells.

The Maria Quitéria started operating ahead of schedule, having originally been scheduled for 2025 in the 2024–2028 Strategic Plan.

Petrobras, as the exclusive operator of the Jubarte field, plays a central role in the Parque das Baleias area, which encompasses several significant fields.

The fields include Baleia Anã, Cachalote, Caxaréu, Jubarte, Mangangá and Pirambú. Jubarte, the first to be discovered, was found in 2001.

In 2019, Petrobras and Brazil’s energy regulator extended the Jubarte field concession until 2056, allowing for the Maria Quitéria‘s implementation within the Parque das Baleias Integrated Project.

Currently, three platforms – P-57, P-58 and the FPSO Cidade de Anchieta – are in operation, and Maria Quitéria is projected to produce around 40% of the field’s output once fully operational.

Recently, Petrobras also reported major gas discoveries in Colombia’s offshore basins alongside Ecopetrol.

The estimated six trillion cubic feet of gas in the Guajira Offshore Basin, marked by the Sirius-1 and Sirius-2 wells, represents a substantial addition to Colombia’s gas reserves.
