KBR has been awarded a FEED contract for the expansion of the Qalhat LNG complex in Sur, Oman.
This project marks a crucial step in Oman’s efforts to meet rising global energy demands while ensuring sustainable and efficient operations.
The expansion involves the development of the complex’s fourth LNG train, with a capacity of 3.8mtpa.
Under the FEED contract, KBR will provide engineering services for the additional LNG train, which will include the expansion of utilities, an LNG tank, the jetty and associated infrastructure.
KBR is recognised for its expertise in the LNG industry, having designed and constructed numerous LNG production facilities worldwide.
KBR Sustainable Technology Solutions president Jay Ibrahim said: “LNG will play an increasingly vital role in the global energy mix, and we are honoured to continue our collaboration with Oman on this critical project.

By GlobalData“By addressing the energy trilemma of security, sustainability and affordability, this project is expected to significantly contribute to Oman’s energy security and sustainability goals.”
Oman LNG operates three liquefaction trains at the Qalhat site near Sur, with a nameplate capacity of 10.4mtpa.
The company officially integrated with Qalhat LNG in September 2013, and the combined entity operates under the name of Oman LNG. This expansion is expected to significantly enhance Oman’s natural gas liquefaction capacity significantly.
Earlier this year, KBR was awarded a contract by Angolan state oil company Sonangol to provide project management services for the new Lobito Refinery.
The contract involves overseeing the engineering, procurement and construction phases of the 200,000-barrels-of-oil-per-day facility.
In 2023, KBR completed the FEED phase for this project, which is anticipated to significantly boost Angola’s fuel production capacity.
