China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) has announced the commencement of production at the Jinzhou 23-2 oilfield development project.
The project, wholly operated and owned by the company, is set to bolster energy supply in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
Located in the northern Bohai Sea at an average water depth of around 13m, the Jinzhou 23-2 oilfield is equipped with two new central processing platforms.
The development plan includes a total of 67 wells, comprising 65 production wells and two water source wells.
The field is expected to reach peak production of approximately 17,000boepd by 2027. The oil extracted from this field is characterised as heavy crude.
The Jinzhou 23-2 project employs an innovative steam stimulation and chemical auxiliary steam flooding technique to decrease the viscosity of the crude oil, which is expected to enhance reserve utilisation.
