Energy industry consulting and engineering services provider John Wood Group (Wood) has been awarded a contract to provide long-term maintenance solutions for Esso Australia’s onshore and offshore assets in the Gippsland Basin, Victoria, Australia.
The contract will provide maintenance and shutdown help to optimise operational performance for the Longford and Long Island Point facilities, as well as the Bass Strait-based offshore assets of the Gippsland Basin joint venture (JV).
Esso Australia operates the JV, which is a 50/50 partnership between Esso Australia Resources and Woodside Energy.
The Bass Strait, known as the “largest single” source of natural gas for the domestic market in Australia, supplies around 40% of the country’s east coast gas demand.
Wood secured the long-term contract, which is to start this month, through a competitive tender. The agreement is expected to create approximately 250 jobs in Victoria by early 2025.
Wood CEO Ken Gilmartin said: “We are proud to be trusted by Esso Australia as their maintenance partner in the Gippsland Basin, operating assets and facilities critical to the country’s energy security.
