Engineering services company Bowman Consulting Group (Bowman) has been awarded a multi-state geodetic survey and monitoring contract by a North American energy infrastructure company.

The project involves conducting quarterly surveys to assess the stability of critical infrastructure and evaluation of geohazard risks, along with ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

Geodesy, the science of measuring and representing the Earth’s geometry, gravity and spatial orientation, is critical in ensuring the integrity of oil and gas infrastructure.

Bowman will monitor more than 2,000 existing geodetic points and install approximately 34 new points along pipeline rights-of-way to ensure the long-term integrity of essential systems.

The company’s responsibilities extend to precise geodetic measurements, installation of durable survey markers and repeat monitoring with advanced measurement techniques.

These methods are crucial for detecting ground movements and identifying potential risks to pipeline infrastructure early on.
