Geophysical services provider Fugro has secured a contract from Aker Energy for the Pecan field, offshore Ghana.
The company will carry out geotechnical and geophysical surveys. These aim to gather crucial data about the seabed and sub-seabed conditions. The surveys will help in planning and positioning the Pecan subsea field infrastructure and the FPSO vessel.
Fugro Africa director Jaco Stemmet said: “This project will build on the extensive experience that our vessels and staff have gained in Ghana and the wider West Africa region, and we look forward to using this knowledge to execute a safe and successful campaign.”
Fugro will conduct the surveys using two vessels for a period of ten weeks, starting from March this year. This will be followed by laboratory testing.
Survey vessel Fugro Searcher will collect the geophysical data with an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV), the Echo Surveyor VI.
Another survey vessel Fugro Scout will work on the geotechnical activity. It can operate in water depths of up to 3,000m.
