Netherlands-based geo-data specialist Fugro has completed the first deepwater autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) site survey for oil and gas firm Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP).
For the survey, which was performed in water depths of 600m, the company used the geophysical survey vessel Fugro Equator and the Fugro ES-V AUV. Fugro noted that the survey was completed with zero health, safety, security and environment (HSSE) incidents.
These survey results will help in planning a drilling programme. Furthermore, major inputs can be obtained to carry out engineering and design studies for deepwater pipeline routing and subsea structures in future field developments.
BSP project lead Bilman Pardomuan Hutabarat said: “This campaign was the first deepwater survey project for Shell in Brunei and its success will lead to many more deepwater programmes.”
Upon completion of the site survey, Fugro subsequently secured the associated geotechnical site investigation and geoconsultancy contract from BSP to provide a review of the geophysical data and desktop study to assist the company in defining its geotechnical work scope.
The Fugro Voyager deepwater geotechnical drilling vessel completed the fieldwork in October 2019.
