A newly built crane has collapsed in Hindustan Shipyard (HSL) in Visakhapatnam, India, during the load testing, killing ten workers.
Times of India reported that the incident occurred on 1 August in the afternoon during testing before the commissioning of the crane. The crane has a capacity of 70t and has a height of 100ft.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the cause of the accident is negligence.
Government sources said that the shipyard will blacklist the manufacturer of the crane, Anupam Industries, which is based in Gujarat. The crane was delivered in August 2017.
Anupam Industries is one of the largest overhead crane makers in India.
During the commissioning of the crane in 2017, HSL requested Anupam Industries to correct the technical deficiencies that it observed.

By GlobalDataHSL official said: “However, ever since we indicated the technical deficiencies and pointed out the problems, despite repeated requests and reminders, Anupam Industries did not attend to the work and all technical deficiencies observed during commissioning remained unattended.”
Anupam Industries did not complete the remaining commissioning work to rectify technical faults and declined to carry out the load trials, added the official.
The shipyard has outsourced the commissioning work to a local vendor, Greenfield Corporation.
Last month, seven ships caught on fire in the shipyard in the Bushehr port, Iran.
The incident was reported by state-run Islamic Republic News Agency, which did not report a reason behind the fires.
