China is likely to register the highest BPA capacity additions globally by 2028, or around 90% of the total additions from upcoming projects, according to GlobalData.
GlobalData’s latest report, Bisphenol A Industry Capacity and Capital Expenditure Forecasts with Details of All Active and Planned Plants to 2028, reveals that China is likely to witness BPA capacity additions of 2.14mtpa in 2024–28 from nine planned projects.
Nivedita Roy, oil and gas analyst at GlobalData, said: “BPA is a colourless industrial chemical extensively utilised in the manufacturing of a wide range of plastics and resins. These materials are primarily employed in food packaging, kitchenware, storage containers and other similar applications.”
In China, the highest capacity addition is expected from the SABIC Fujian Petrochemical Zhangzhou Bisphenol A Plant with a capacity of 270,000 tonnes per annum (tpa), said the report.
The plant is currently under construction in the SABIC Fujian Petrochemical Zhangzhou Complex, and is due to commence BPA production in 2026.
Another six plants, each with a capacity of 240,000tpa, are likely to begin operations by 2028. Of these, two are planned in the Jiangsu province, and the rest in the Hainan, Jilin, Shandong and Henan provinces.
