Cheniere Energy has announced the substantial completion of Train 1 at the Corpus Christi Stage 3 Liquefaction Project (CCL Stage 3) in Texas, US.
This milestone marks the transfer of care, custody and control of Train 1 and associated systems from the project’s engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) partner Bechtel Energy to Cheniere.
Cheniere issued the full notice to proceed on CCL Stage 3 to Bechtel in June 2022.
CCL Stage 3 comprises seven mid-scale trains that are expected to produce more than ten million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The first LNG production from Train 1 was achieved in December 2024, with the first cargo loaded in February 2025.
Cheniere president and CEO Jack Fusco said: “The substantial completion of the first train of CCL Stage 3 – ahead of schedule and on budget – marks another important milestone for Cheniere and further builds upon the track record of excellence in execution consistently delivered by the Cheniere and Bechtel teams.
“We remain focused on safely and efficiently bringing the remaining CCL Stage 3 trains online ahead of schedule, providing much-needed new LNG supply to the global market, and creating long-term value for our stakeholders by growing the Corpus Christi platform with disciplined, brownfield growth.”
The overall project completion for CCL Stage 3 was 78.3%, with engineering at 97.6%, procurement at 97.2%, subcontract work at 88.8% and construction at 45.5%, as of 31 January 2025.
Upon completion of all seven trains, the Corpus Christi facility’s total production capacity is expected to exceed 25mtpa.
