French geoscience company CGG has secured a three-year contract extension to continue providing advanced land seismic imaging services at its Muscat’s dedicated processing centre (DPC).

The contract extension was awarded by Petroleum Development Oman (PDO).

It would be effective on 1 January 2022 and run until 31 December 2024.

The Petroleum Development Oman operates a concession in Oman which covers nearly one third of the land surface area in the country.

This makes the dedicated processing centre a ‘critical proving ground’ to employ new technology and workflows that are capable of reaching the highly variable imaging requirements of PDO’s exploration and production (E&P) activities.

The contract extension will enable CGG specialists to continue implementing their latest ‘proprietary algorithms’ to bring significant change in the imaging of the growing land data volumes.

Under the contract, CGG will also address new challenges when adapting to PDO’s transition ‘from cable to node multi-source acquisition’ as well as incorporate machine learning (ML) into the workflows to improve efficiency and enhance quality.

The geoscience company will also support PDO in their ongoing challenge to increase the seismic applicability in ‘reservoir characterisation’.

CGG CEO Sophie Zurquiyahsaid: “I would like to congratulate our Muscat DPC team on winning this contract renewal for our largest DPC worldwide. This achievement is undoubtedly due to their technical excellence, their outstanding service and support to PDO, and their proactivity over the decades to embrace change and new challenges.

“By 2024, CGG and PDO will have celebrated the 30th anniversary of this highly collaborative partnership that focuses on safety, integrity and innovation.

“We are committed to building on this legacy and the continued advance of our seismic data imaging technology to best support PDO in the de-risking of prospects and the optimisation of production.”

CGG continues to support Oman’s ‘In-Country Value’ initiatives, such as developing local talent as well as backing several educational initiatives through its alliance with Sultan Qaboos University.

In November last year, CGG expanded its geoscience presence with a newly established regional centre in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

In June 2018, CGG added two multi-client three-dimensional (3D) surveys that are focused on Anadarko Basin, Oklahoma, US, to enhance its data library.
