Engineering company CB&I has secured a lump-sum contract for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of two cryogenic tanks for the Ruwais LNG project in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The contract has been awarded by the TJN Ruwais joint venture (JV) comprising Technip Energies France-Abu Dhabi, JGC and NMDC Energy.
Situated in Al Ruwais Industrial City in Abu Dhabi, the Ruwais LNG project is owned by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC). It is set to establish the first net-zero LNG facility in the Middle East upon completion.
The contract entails CB&I delivering two 180,000m³ full containment concrete LNG tanks, complete with associated piping and civil infrastructure.
CB&I CEO Mark Butts said: “CB&I’s commitment to the Gulf region for delivery of world-class LNG storage began in 1981 and is shown with this latest project award.
“Our ability to offer execution certainty by utilising the global reach uniquely available to CB&I for project delivery, coupled with a balance of cost and quality, allow CB&I to provide the best value product in the market. It also provides us with another opportunity to contribute to the energy transition market.”

By GlobalDataConstruction activities by CB&I are due to commence in November 2025, with the project’s completion targeted for early 2028.

In June 2024, ADNOC awarded an EPC contract to the TJN Ruwais JV for the Ruwais LNG project.
The Ruwais LNG project will feature two natural gas liquefaction trains with a total production capacity of 9.6mtpa.
In a move towards sustainability, the plant will utilise electric-driven motors powered by clean energy, as opposed to conventional gas turbines.
This initiative is set to make the plant not only the first LNG export facility in the Middle East and North Africa region to operate on clean power but also among the world’s lowest-carbon intensity LNG plants.
The project is expected to increase ADNOC’s LNG production capacity more than twofold, aligning with global demand for natural gas and the shift towards decarbonisation.
In December 2024, ADNOC signed a 15-year deal with EnBW to supply 600,000 tonnes per annum of lower-carbon LNG from Ruwais.
