Floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessels operator BW Offshore has encountered oil pay in targeted reservoirs at the Tortue field within the Dussafu License, offshore Gabon.

The development was made after the company completed the DTM-3 appraisal well drilling at the project.

The DTM-3 appraisal well comes after the drilling and completion of the DTM-2H horizontal production well targeting the Dentale D6 reservoir.

Drilled to a total depth of 3,550m, the appraisal well confirmed the presence of oil in the western flank of the Gamba formation.

The well penetrated around 30m of hydrocarbon-bearing reservoir within the formation and underlying Dentale Subcrop Sandstones.

“The appraisal well confirms the high quality of the Tortue field and gives us further confidence in the upside potential of the Dussafu Licence.”

The objective of the well was to appraise the western flank of the Tortue field in an effort to extend the known distribution of hydrocarbon resources within the Gamba and Dentale formations.

BW Offshore CEO Carl Arnet said: “The appraisal well confirms the high quality of the Tortue field and gives us further confidence in the upside potential of the Dussafu Licence.

“We continue to execute on the development plan towards first oil in the second half of 2018 as planned.”

The company intends to undertake an additional horizontal development well, the DTM-3H, to target the Gamba Sandstone formation in the central part of the field.

Additional development drilling is subject to the completion of evaluations and the receipt of necessary approvals.

BW Offshore has a fleet of 15 FPSOs and one FSO represented in all major oil and gas regions across the globe.
