BP Trinidad and Tobago (bpTT) has commenced production at its Cypre gas project, marking a significant milestone in bp’s upstream strategy.
The Cypre development is one of ten major bp projects that are expected to commence globally between 2025 and 2027, aimed at enhancing upstream growth.
Located 78km off the south-east coast of Trinidad in the East Mayaro Block, the Cypre gas field is situated in water depths of approximately 80m.
The project is expected to significantly contribute to bp’s target of 250,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd) from these ten projects.
Cypre is bpTT’s third subsea development, consisting of seven wells connected to the existing Juniper platform.
At its peak, the project is projected to deliver around 45,000boepd, equivalent to approximately 250 million standard cubic feet per day of gas.
The first phase, involving four wells, was completed by the end of 2024, with the second phase due to begin in the latter half of this year.
bpTT, a joint venture owned by bp (70%) and Repsol (30%), fully owns the Cypre project.
Cypre is bp’s second major start-up of 2025, following the commencement of production from the second development phase of the Raven field in Egypt.
bpTT president David Campbell said: “Cypre is another key milestone in bpTT’s strategy to maximise production from our shallow water acreage using existing infrastructure. The project not only reinforces our commitment to maintaining production but also plays a crucial role in satisfying our existing gas supply commitments.
“Cypre represents a significant investment in the country’s energy sector. We are proud to be part of this journey and look forward to continuing our collaboration with government and other stakeholders to unlock Trinidad and Tobago’s energy future.”
In addition to Cypre, bpTT has reached the final investment decision on the Ginger gas development, further advancing its operations in Trinidad.
The Ginger project will be bpTT’s fourth subsea development, featuring four subsea wells connected to the Mahogany B platform.
BP has also announced a gas discovery at the Frangipani well, consistent with its strategy to expand oil and gas operations.
bpTT president Claire Fitzpatrick said: “These developments underscore our commitment to delivering value and meeting the energy demands of the future.”
