Norwegian engineering company Aker Solutions has established a software and digital services company called ix3 to enable oil and gas operators to optimise field performance.
ix3 has developed a digital twin platform called Integral which combines engineering, manufacturing and test data with live-streamed operational data.
The platform can be leveraged to monitor, maintain, evaluate and optimise energy assets throughout the life cycle from concept designing to its decommissioning. It also facilitates decision making process and helps the operator to increase efficiency of the assets.
Aker Solutions noted that one of the main hurdles towards digitalisation of the oil and gas sector has been data quality. The Integral platform addresses this drawback by integrating structured and easily searchable information through multiple applications.
All data on a specific resource is maintained in a centralised location that connects the operator with other associated contractors and other service suppliers. The solution leverages cloud computing, Industrial Internet of Things, machine learning and artificial intelligence to offer the services.
Aker Solutions chief operating officer Dean Watson said: “Our software solutions have contributed to improved quality and performance on 140 projects in the last 15 years, with benchmarked results.

By GlobalData“We have combined our cutting-edge software with deep domain knowledge in ix3 to help our customers deliver more efficient projects and operations.”
In total, ix3 has four separate software suites including Concept Insight, Engineering Insight, Construction Insight and Operational Insight. They are segregated to guide the operators with the specific life cycle sections of an energy asset, from testing multiple field development scenarios to offering real-time insights of the facility.
ix3 head Are Føllesdal Tjønn said: “The ix3 suite of apps is radically transforming how we work. They accelerate time to first oil and increase safety and performance throughout the full life of an energy asset. ix3 is named after its core offering: integrated, innovative insight.”
