Norwegian energy service firm Aker Solutions has secured a letter of intent from Equinor for topside work on the Troll B and C platforms offshore Norway,.

The Troll oil and gas field is located 65km west of Kollsnes, near Bergen, at a water depth of 300m.

Aker Solutions will be responsible for modifications at the two platforms, which include the installation of equipment for receiving electrical power from shore at Kollsnes via cable.

The firm will replace power generation from gas turbines at the platforms to reduce climate footprint.

The scope of work will include system engineering; procurement; construction and prefabrication; as well as installation at the offshore platforms.

Aker plans to undertake the engineering and construction work at its offices in Bergen, and its yard in Egersund, respectively.

Aker plans to commence the work immediately and complete it by the end of 2025.

The letter of intent from Equinor follows the completion of the front-end engineering (FEED) study by Aker Solutions following the previous signing of the contract.

The contract award will be is subject to regulatory approval and a final investment decision.

Recently, Equinor and its partners DNO Norge, Petoro, and Wellesley Petroleum made oil and gas discovery at production licence 923 near Norway’s Troll field in the North Sea.
