Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has deployed AIQ’s Advanced Reservoir 360 (AR360) solution across more than 30 reservoirs in its upstream operations.

Developed by AIQ in partnership with SLB as part of ADNOC’s ENERGYai initiative, the solution utilises AI and ML technologies.

The system is designed to improve reservoir management and optimise field development planning, which are critical aspects of the oil and gas industry.

The initial deployment of AR360 was completed in two ADNOC reservoirs at the Bab and Umm Shaif fields early in 2024.

ADNOC Upstream executive director Abdulmunim Saif Al Kindy said: “The integration of AR360 across more of our reservoirs is a testament to our success in harnessing AI and advanced technologies to unlock more value from our natural resources.

“Building on decades of investment in innovation and technology, we will continue to accelerate the deployment of AI solutions from the control room to the boardroom as we responsibly meet the growing global energy demand.”

AR360 is reported to significantly reduce planning time and improve well life and recovery rates by balancing new drilling, enhancing existing well performance, and optimising injection and production volumes.

The technology represents a shift away from traditional forecasting technologies that typically require multiple software platforms and data sets, which can be time-consuming.

AIQ acting managing director Magzhan Kenesbai said: “The extended deployment of AR360 by ADNOC is an important endorsement of our technology and reinforces the emergence of AIQ as a developing global AI supplier for the energy sector.”

ADNOC has implemented more than 30 AI tools across its operations, ranging from the control room to the boardroom, to enhance safety, reduce emissions and optimise efficiency.

In August, ADNOC rolled out an AI-enabled process optimisation technology, Neuron 5, to advance its operational capabilities.

The technology, initially deployed at ADNOC Onshore’s Northeast Bab field and ADNOC Gas’s Taweelah gas compression plant, is now set to be expanded to all ADNOC facilities.

Developed by ADNOC’s Thamama Excellence Center, AIQ and AVEVA, Neuron 5 operates autonomously, monitoring the performance of critical equipment to facilitate process optimisation and preventative maintenance.
