Cloud computing has seen rapid growth and hiring across a variety of industries in recent years – not least among offshore oil and gas industry operations and technologies companies.
Figures show that the number of new cloud roles being advertised for these companies has increased in recent months – with firms across the industry looking to expand their capabilities.
The number of newly advertised roles stood at 583 in Q1 2021. That’s up from 456 in Q4 2020 but down from from 681 in Q3 2020.
The figures are compiled by GlobalData, who track the number of new job postings from key companies in various sectors over time. Using textual analysis, these job advertisements are then classified thematically.

Where are companies hiring for cloud careers in oil & gas?
Looking across key offshore oil and gas industry operations and technologies companies tracked by GlobalData, India is currently seeing the largest number of cloud job advertisements. Last quarter the country saw 331 advertisements - up from 155 in Q4 2020 and 317 in Q3 2020.
On a city level, Atlanta (US) had the most newly advertised cloud roles in Q1 2021 with 53, followed by Pune, (India) with 17, and Maplewood, (US) with 17.
Where is seeing the most growth for cloud roles in oil & gas?
The biggest growth area has been in India - which saw 119 job adverts for cloud in Q4 2020, increasing to 331 in Q1 2021.
In terms of cities, firms are increasing cloud hires in Shanghai - with five roles in the latest quarter - up from zero in the previous one.
