GlobalData’s latest report on the global expandable polystyrene industry predicts its capacity is poised for moderate growth over the next five years.
The report, entitled ‘Global Expandable Polystyrene (EPS) Industry Outlook to 2023 – Capacity and Capital Expenditure Forecasts with Details of All Active and Planned Plants’ says the sector will increase from 10.29 mtpa in 2018 to 10.64 mtpa in 2023, representing 3.4 per cent total growth.
Around five planned and announced plants are slated to come online in Asia and the Middle East.
Among regions, Asia leads with the largest capacity additions for both upcoming plants and for the expansion of existing EPS plants by 2023. For the expansion of existing EPS plants, the region is expected to add a capacity of 0.18 mtpa from two announced plants.
Capacity additions: India & Iran
India is forecast to lead capacity additions, with a capacity of 0.18 mtpa from two expansion plants. The capacity addition will be from announced plants, Supreme Petrochem Nagothane Expandable Polystyrene (EPS) Plant 2 and LG Polymers India Visakhapatnam Expandable Polystyrene (EPS) Plant, contributing the capacity of 0.15 mtpa and 0.03 mtpa, respectively.
The capacity details of the planned plant in China, ‘Ningxia Baofeng Energy Group Yinchuan Expandable Polystyrene (EPS) Plant’ is not available.

The capacity contribution for Iran will be from the planned plants, Dalahoo Kimiya Industry Company Assaluyeh Expanded Polystyrene Plant and Petro Ramsheh Esfahan Expanded Polystyrene Plant, with the capacity of 0.12 mtpa and 0.05 mtpa, respectively.
