GlobalData’s latest report, “Global Refinery Fluid Catalytic Cracking Units (FCCU) Outlook to 2025 – Capacity and Capital Expenditure Outlook with Details of All Operating and Planned Fluid Catalytic Cracking Units” says that the global refinery FCCU capacity increased from 14,223 thousand barrels per day (mbd) in 2015 to 14,259mbd in 2020 at an Average Annual Growth Rate (AAGR) of 0.1%. It is expected to increase from 14,259mbd in 2020 to 15,613mbd in 2025 at an AAGR of 1.8%.
United States, China, India, Japan and Russia are the major countries accounted for 65.8% of the total global FCCU capacity in 2020.
The US had the highest refinery FCCU capacity globally in 2020 with 5,537mbd. Other key countries in terms of refinery FCCU capacity were China, India, Japan and Russia with 1,725mbd, 938mbd, 647mbd and 539mbd, respectively. China witnessed the highest capacity growth during 2015-2020 with an AAGR of 3.7% among the key countries followed by India and Russia with 1.9% and 0.9%, respectively.
Globally, 59 countries have active refineries with FCC units and the total refinery FCCU capacity of 14,259mbd in 2020. Baton Rouge (US), Baytown (US), Jamnagar I (India), Jamnagar II (India) and Texas City III (US) are the largest refineries in the world in terms of the refinery FCCU capacity in 2020.
By Lagos I (Nigeria), Yulong (China), Dos Bocas (Mexico), Gulei (China) and Tuban II (Indonesia) are some of the largest upcoming refineries with FCC units in the world during the outlook period 2021-2025.
