Europe is expected to witness 494 projects commence operations during the period 2023-2027. Out of these, upstream projects would be 147, midstream would be the highest with 227 projects, with refinery and petrochemicals at 46 and 74, respectively.
In midstream, the trunk/transmission pipelines segment alone constitutes 47% of all projects, followed by underground gas storage (UGS) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) with 21% and 19%, respectively. Refinery and petrochemical projects constitute about 24% of all upcoming oil and gas projects in Europe from 2023-2027.
Newbuild projects dominate the upcoming projects landscape in Europe, constituting around 76% of the total projects across the value chain. The share of newbuild projects is especially high in the midstream sector, accounting for 55% of the total newbuild projects across the value chain. On the other hand, the upstream (fields) sector dominates expansion projects with 40%.

In Europe, about 36% of the projects are in the construction and commissioning stages and are more likely to commence operations during the outlook period. About 37% of the projects are in the planning stages, and the rest have been approved or awaiting approval.
Among countries, the UK dominates the upcoming projects landscape in Europe, accounting for 19% of the total projects expected to start operations by 2027.
