Global Styrene-Butadiene-Rubber (SBR) capacity is poised to see considerable growth over the next five years, potentially increasing from 8.27 million tons per annum (mtpa) in 2021 to 15.30mtpa in 2026, registering total growth of 85%.

GlobalData’s latest report, ‘Global Styrene-Butadiene-Rubber (SBR) Industry Outlook to 2026 – Capacity and Capital Expenditure Forecasts with Details of All Active and Planned Plants’, states that Asia leads with the largest capacity additions for the newbuild and expansion of the existing SBR projects by 2026.

Asia is expected to add a capacity of 6.61mtpa from three newbuild planned and announced projects, whereas, for the expansion projects, the region is expected to add a capacity of 0.15mtpa from two planned and announced projects.

In Asia, India leads with the largest capacity additions, with a capacity of 6.65mtpa from one planned and two announced projects. The main capacity addition will be from an announced project, Reliance Industries Jamnagar Styrene-Butadiene Rubber (SBR) Plant, with a capacity of 6.5mtpa. It is expected to commence production of SBR in 2025.
