Global expandable polystyrene (EPS) capacity is poised to see considerable growth over the next five years, potentially increasing from 10.57mtpa in 2020 to 10.92mtpa in 2025, registering total growth of 3%.
GlobalData’s latest report, ‘Global Expandable Polystyrene (EPS) Industry Outlook to 2025 – Capacity and Capital Expenditure Forecasts with Details of All Active and Planned Plants’, states that around three planned and announced plants are slated to come online in Asia and the Middle East.
Within Asia, India is the only country with one planned and one announced EPS plant, with a total capacity of about 0.18mtpa by 2025. The country is expected to spend a capital expenditure (capex) of $54.25m. Major capacity additions will be from Supreme Petrochem Nagothane EPS Plant 2.
In the Middle East, only Iran has one planned project, with capacity additions of about 0.12mtpa by 2025. The country is expected to spend a total of $46.08m. Dalahoo Kimiya Industry Company Assaluyeh EPS Plant is the only plant accounting for the entire capacity additions in the country.
Supreme Petrochem, Kimiya Sanaye Dalahoo and LG Chem will be the three companies globally in terms of planned and announced capacity additions over the upcoming years.
