Global Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS) capacity is poised to see considerable growth over the next five years, potentially increasing from 14.22 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) in 2022 to 19.52mtpa in 2027, registering total growth of 37%.
Some 18 planned and announced ABS projects are expected to come online, predominantly in Asia, followed by North America and Europe over the upcoming years.
Asia is expected to add a capacity of 3.84mtpa from nine new build planned projects, whereas, for the expansion of the existing projects, the region is expected to add a capacity of 0.76mtpa from four planned and announced projects.
Within Asia, the major capacity addition is from an announced project Zhejiang Petrochemical Daishan Plant 2 with capacity of 1.20mtpa. It is expected to come online on 2027. It is followed by a planned project INEOS Styrolution Ningbo ABS Plant, with a capacity of 0.60mtpa. It is expected to commence production in 2023.

North America follows next with a capacity addition of 0.07mtpa from one planned project. The capacity addition will be from INEOS Styrolution Mexicana Altamira ABS Plant, which is expected to come online on 2023.
