Global chlorine capacity is poised to see considerable growth over the next five years, potentially increasing from 90.35Mtpa in 2021 to 96.77Mtpa in 2026, registering total growth of 7%.
GlobalData’s latest report, ‘Global Chlorine Industry Outlook to 2026 – Capacity and Capital Expenditure Forecasts with Details of All Active and Planned Plants,’ states that around 42 planned and announced plants are slated to come online primarily in Asia followed by North America.
Within Asia, China has five planned and announced chlorine capacity additions, with a total capacity of about 1.95Mtpa by 2026. The country is expected to spend a capital expenditure (CAPEX) of $686.28 million. The majority of capacity additions are from Xinjiang Zhongtai Chemical Company Baicheng Chlorine Plant, with a capacity of 0.71Mtpa. It is expected to commence production of Chlorine in 2023.
North America has two planned and announced projects, Major capacity additions will be from Shintech Plaquemine Chlorine Plant 3. The CAPEX for the plant is $120.03 million by 2026.

Xinjiang Zhongtai Chemical Co Ltd, Tianjin Bohai Chemical Industry Co Ltd and Shin-Etsu Chemical Co Ltd will be the top three companies globally in terms of planned and announced capacity additions over the upcoming years.
