GlobalData’s latest report, ‘Global Crude Oil Refinery Maintenance Review, 2019 – Asia Incurs Highest Planned Maintenance in the Year’ indicates that in 2019, among all regions globally, North America had the highest refining capacity under maintenance (both planned and unplanned) with 9.4 million barrels per day (mmbd). Asia and Europe followed with 8.4mmbd and 3.3mmbd of refining capacities under maintenance, respectively.
Asia had the highest refining capacity of 7.9mmbd under planned maintenance in 2019. North America and Europe followed with 6.6mmbd and 2.5mmbd respectively.
North America had the highest refining capacity of 5.7mmbd under unplanned maintenance, followed by South America and Asia with 1.8mmbd and 1.3mmbd respectively.
Among countries globally, the US (8.1mmbd), China (3.4mmbd), and India (2.4mmbd) were the top three countries in terms of refining capacity under maintenance (both planned and unplanned) for 2019.
In terms of refining capacity under planned maintenance in 2019, the US, China, and India again led globally among countries with 5.3mmbd, 3.4mmbd, and 2.1mmbd, respectively. In terms of refining capacity under unplanned maintenance, the US (5.7mmbd), Venezuela (1.8mmbd), and India (1.03mmbd) were the top three countries globally.
Among refineries, Paraguana refinery in Venezuela, Jamnagar I refinery in India and Port Arthur II refinery in the US were the top three refineries in terms of refining capacity under maintenance (both planned and unplanned) with 1.0mmbd, 0.7mmbd, and 0.6mmbd respectively.
