Some 5,534 new Covid-19 related deaths were recorded across the world yesterday – the lowest number for more than a week.

Italy, Spain and France all recorded fewer than 500 deaths.

While a positive sign – and the continuation of a trend that suggests central Europe may be past its “peak” level of deaths – figures reported over the weekend are always subject to under-reporting.

Deaths in the US continue to rise. America has now seen a total of 40,661 Covid-19 related deaths – nearly twice as many as Spain and more than twice as many as France.
