Norwegian contractor Aibel has secured work for the floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel for Equinor’s Bacalhau field offshore Brazil.
This contract comes after Japanese firm MODEC secured a contract from Equinor for a complete FPSO for the field.

Modec has signed a letter of intent (LoI) with Aibel to provide front end engineering and design (FEED) for management. Aibel will also provide basic engineering services for the FPSO.
The LoI includes an option for an engineering, procurement, construction contract. This would cover around 20,000 tonnes of topside modules for the vessel.
The FPSO will be the largest in Brazil, with a production capacity of 220,000 barrels per day (bpd).

Equinor operated the Bacalhau field, with a 40% stake. Other partners include ExxonMobil (40%), Petrogal Brasil (20%) and Pré-sal Petróleo as a non-investor government agency.
The field lies 185km from the coast of São Paulo, at a depth of 2,050m.
Aibel Field Development executive vice-president Nils Arne Hatleskog said: “Over the years, our Singapore office has developed solid expertise within the FPSO field, from early concept and study to final execution, and therefore it has become a hub for our strategic focus on the international FPSO market.”
Aibel will begin engineering works at its Singapore office. It has scheduled prefabrication of the topside modules for the second quarter of next year.
Aibel’s Thailand engineering office will support detail engineering. It will build the modules at its yard facilities in Laem Chabang, Thailand.
