The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) has awarded AED5.88bn ($1.6bn) in 3D offshore and onshore seismic survey contracts in a bid to identify new resources.
The contracts involve an area of up to 53,000km² and were awarded to China National Petroleum Company’s (CNPC) subsidiary BGP following a competitive bid process.
In the UAE, the contract winner is represented by Al Masaood Oil Industry Supplies & Services.
The new seismic survey is part of Adnoc’s 2030 smart growth strategy to maximise hydrocarbon resources. It will include up to 30,000km² offshore and 23,000km² onshore regions.
High-resolution three-dimensional images will be captured of the complex subsurface structure as far as 25,000ft beneath the surface.
The survey is expected to be completed by 2024. It will see the usage of seismic streaming vessels and ocean bottom nodes to procure data from the offshore regions and vibrator trucks to acquire onshore data.
