Cooper Energy has completed Sole-3 flow-back operations at Australia’s Gippsland Basin, with well performance and reservoir deliverability fulfilling pre-drill expectations.
The company noted that the first of two production wells for the Sole Gas Project is being shut-in for future connection following clean-up and flow back operations.
The tests, which were carried out on the near-horizontal 97m completed section of the Top Latrobe Group sandstone reservoir, provided satisfactory results.
The gas was found to be consistent with expectations and H2S concentrations within plant specifications.
Cooper Energy managing director David Maxwell said: “We now have a well in place, ready to go, with production capacity exceeding project requirements.
“Reservoir quality, production performance, and the gas composition are all in line with pre-drill expectations.

By GlobalData“We now move on to resuming Sole-4 and completing the project’s drilling requirement.”
During the tests, the flow rate was restricted by surface well test equipment to a maximum of nearly 48 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) through a 104/64in choke.
The flow rate was found to be 38mmscfd through an 88/64in choke for a nine-hour flow period.
Further analysis after the tests validate Sole-3 capability to produce more than the maximum plant throughput rate of 68TJ per day under standard production conditions.
Sole-3 has currently been suspended before making a pipeline connection.
Cooper expects to begin pipelay operation works in order to connect the Sole gas field with the Orbost Gas Processing Plant in October this year.
The Sole gas field is expected to start gas supply to south-east Australia from next year.
